How to measure
Bust: Circle the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it horizontal.
Waist: Measure around the smallest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button.
Hips: Measure around the broadest part of your hips, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor.
Understanding Size Differences
South Africa typically uses UK sizing but sometimes adjusts for local market.
UK: Known for snugger fits, the UK sizes are typically smaller than US sizes.
Europe: Uses even numbers (34, 36, 38, etc.), where you can translate to UK sizes by subtracting 28.
US: Generally offers more generous sizing. A US size 2 is comparable to a UK size 6.
Additional Measurement Tips
Wear form-fitting clothing or no clothing to avoid adding extra inches with bulky garments.
Stand up straight with your feet together and body relaxed for the most natural and accurate measurement.
Use a mirror or ask someone to help ensure the tape measure is level and correctly positioned.
Take multiple measurements for each area to ensure consistency and accuracy. If numbers vary, use the average.
Keep the tape measure close but not tight. The tape should lie comfortably on your skin or clothing, without compressing it.
Understanding these nuances in measurement will help you find the perfect fit in Wendy Bashford’s designs, making sure each piece looks tailored and feels comfortable.
